Standard Drywall

Doesn't have any special features added to the design. It is one of the most popular choices for interior construction.

Mold Or Moisture Resistant Drywall / Purple Drywall

This drywall is composed of a paperless backing and a special coating to prevent the build-up of any kind of mold/mildew caused by moist or humid areas.


  • Great choise to use on bathrooms, laundry rooms, utility room kitchen areas, basements.

Fire and Sound Resistant Drywall

  • Fire Resistant Drywalls / Type X Drywall Are made with glass fibers for extra thickness. This kind of drywall will help prevent the spread of fire, will generate less smoke than standard drywall, better room sound control, and will pass any required building codes. This kind of drywall is ideal for utility rooms, garages, and near furnaces.
  • Sound Resistant Drywalls / Sound Dampening Drywall Are designed to reduce noise between walls. It is a thicker sheet of drywall (1/2"-5/8") than standard drywall. Has a noise-dampening core, but for better soundproofing, the ideal drywall would be the ones with fiberglass insulation.

Size and Thickness of Drywalls

Sizes


There are three common sizes for drywalls:


  • 4x8 Foot Drywall: The standard and most popular size, will work great for either vertical or horizontal installations.
  • 4x10 Foot Drywall: Great for tall walls and expansive ceilings
  • 4x12 Foot Drywall:  This is the longest size available, is ideal for big rooms and high ceilings. It will cover more areas with fewer panels.


Thickness


  • 1/4"  Drywall : The 1/4 inch drywall is the thinnest option available in the market. this is commonly used as a skimming material, installed over an existing layer of the wall just to refresh the look of the wall.
  • 3/8" Drywall : This is a good choice for curved walls. commonly used to do repairs on older drywalls and do patchings over drywalls that need it.
  • 1/2" Drywall : This is the most commonly used drywall for interior use since they're easy to carry and hang.
  • 5/8" Drywall : This is the thickest drywall available in the market, most of the drywall with this thickness are fire-resistant and soundproof. Also, it’s a good choice because it will help prevent the drywall to hang over time.

TYPES OF CEILINGS

Conventional/Standard/Flat Ceiling

This is the most common and simplest type of ceiling, it's made out of drywall. The standard ceiling height is 9 feet, but there are people who raise it to 10-13 feet. This will help rooms to feel more spacious and brighter.

Beamed Ceiling

Beamed Ceilings are considered to be a traditional/contemporary type of ceilings. Which are made to have wood beams exposed, trying to evoke a rustic charm. Typically found in dining rooms and living rooms.

Drop/Suspended Ceiling

     Referred to as the type of ceilings that hang from metal strips/grids, this kind of ceiling is also known as vinyl tiles ceilings. Even though they are mainly installed for commercial buildings, there are a few people who like this kind of ceilings for their homes.

Coffered Ceilings

They are made out of three-dimensional grooved wood, fiberboards, or PVC. Typically found in high-end homes, reflects a classic and luxurious design. If you want to add a more rustic and classy aesthetic look you can make them out of wood, staining it will make the grain show off more, wood will also be more durable.

Cathedral Ceilings

This is a type of vault that follows the pitch of the roof. Are known by their inverted V shape. commonly found in large living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. Even though cathedral ceilings will give your home a distinctive look, it will also make it a little bit pricey to paint it and do proper maintenance, and it could make your electric bill go up.
